We would like to inform you that Provincial secretariat for Urban planning and environmental protection will organize Closing conference of the project “Nature protection from invasive plant species” on Friday, September 20, 2019, starting at 12 o’clock in the hall of the Provincial Government Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, in Novi Sad. The Closing Conference is being implemented within the second call of Interreg-IPA CBC Hungary-Serbia Programme. This event is part of this year’s celebration of European Labor Day under the Interreg-IPA CBC Hungary-Serbia Programme
Speakers at the event from Serbian and Hungarian institutions will be: Brankica Tabak – undersecretary, Provincial Secretariat for Urbanism and Environmental Protection; Viktor Tunic – Head of the Joint Secretariat of the Interreg-IPA CBC Hungary-Serbia Programme, Nemanja Erceg- Project Manager and assistant of Provincial Secretary, as well as Mr Andras Palkovic, dean of Faculty for horticulture and rural development, John Von Noiman University – project partner from Kecskemét. The project results will be announced through presentations and films.
The event will feature the Provincial Secretariats for Urbanism and the Environment, representative of INTERREG IPA Cross-border Program Hungary Serbia, representative of project partners John of Neumann University of Kecskemét, representatives of Provincial Institute for Nature Protection, Local Government, Environmental Inspections, managers of protected areas from Vojvodina, as well as public, scientific and professional institutions dealing with the problem of invasive plant species.
The closing conference will present the project idea, goals, activities and results of the project on invasive plant species in the protected areas covered by the project. The project will take place around 100 participants from relevant institutions, but will also be open to the public. The lead partner in the project is the Provincial Secretariat for Urbanism and the Environment, and the partner from Hungary is John von Neumann University (Neumann Janos Egietem). The project started on January 31, 2018 and lasted for 20 months, until September 29, 2019. Total project budget: EUR 284,491.00, co-financing the EU (IPA) fund at 85% or a maximum of EUR 241,817.34. The main objective of the project is to reduce environmental risks and spread the adverse effects of climate change in the protected environment in the Hungary-Serbia border region by conducting joint monitoring and mapping actions of invasive plant species and suppressing ambrosia, to ensure better ecological status of protected areas and better conditions for life of the population.
The project areas included four protected areas in the border area: Special Nature Reserves; Selevenjske pustare and Lake Ludas, Land of exceptional features of the Suboticka peščara, and the Palic Nature Park in the territory of the city of Subotica and the municipality of Kanjiža in Serbia and the Kiskunšag National Park near Kecskemét in Hungary.
The achieved results of the project are: Established monitoring system as a basis for the analysis of the distribution of invasive plant species, identification of the species of invasive species of soil in the project area, monitoring of pollen concentration of invasive plant species and its interactions with air pollution in the border region; suppression of various types of third building in the project areas in the border region on a total of 270 ha; Raised awareness of relevant stakeholders and institutions regarding invasive plant species; Establishing ECO Knowledge and Experience Networks
This event is a part of this year’s European Cooperation Day celebration within the Interreg-IPA Cross-border Cooperation Programme Hungary-Serbia. The detailed schedule of the participating events is available on the Programme’s website.
The European Cooperation Day is an annual observance taking place on 21 September and the surrounding weeks to celebrate the achievements of territorial cooperation in different regions in Europe, including the neighbouring countries of the European Union.
